1. Introduction
TrailTimes ("we," "us," or "our") is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and safeguard your information when you use the TrailTimes application ("Service"), including our mobile applications for iOS and Android, our website, and any related services.
By using the Service, you agree to the collection and use of information in accordance with this policy. If you do not agree with this policy, please do not use the Service.
2. Information We Collect
2.1 Account Information
When you create an account, we collect information such as your email address, display name, and profile photo. If you register through a third-party provider (Google or Apple), we receive your name, email address, and profile picture from that provider. We do not receive or store your third-party account passwords.
2.2 Location and Activity Data
When you record an activity, we collect GPS location data, including your geographic coordinates, altitude, speed, and timestamps. This data is used to map your activity, calculate distance and elevation, match trails, and provide leaderboard rankings.
Location data is only collected while you are actively recording an activity or using location-dependent features. We do not track your location in the background outside of active recording sessions.
2.3 User-Generated Content
We collect content you voluntarily submit, including activity titles and descriptions, photos, comments, trail ratings, crew information, and event details.
2.4 Device and Usage Information
We automatically collect certain technical information, including your device type, operating system and version, app version, unique device identifiers, and general usage data such as features accessed and interaction patterns. This helps us improve the Service and troubleshoot issues.
2.5 Payment Information
If you subscribe to a paid plan, payment processing is handled by third-party payment processors (Apple App Store, Google Play Store, or Stripe). We do not directly collect or store your credit card numbers or banking information. We may receive transaction confirmation details such as subscription status and billing period.
3. How We Use Your Information
We use the information we collect to:
- Provide, maintain, and improve the Service, including activity recording, trail matching, and route planning
- Calculate and display leaderboard rankings and trail completion statistics
- Enable social features such as following other users, crews, and activity sharing
- Send push notifications about achievements, trail completions, and social interactions (with your consent)
- Process subscription payments and manage your account
- Analyze usage patterns to improve features and user experience
- Enforce our Terms of Service and protect against fraud or abuse
- Respond to your requests and provide customer support
4. Privacy Zones
TrailTimes offers a Privacy Zones feature that allows you to designate geographic areas (such as your home or workplace) where the start and end points of your activities will be hidden from other users. When a Privacy Zone is active, your activity data within that zone is obscured in any publicly shared or social views.
5. Data Sharing and Disclosure
We do not sell your personal information to third parties. We may share your information in the following circumstances:
5.1 Public Activity and Profile Data
If you choose to make your activities or profile public, certain information (such as your display name, profile photo, activity summaries, and leaderboard rankings) will be visible to other users. You can control the visibility of individual activities and your profile through your privacy settings.
5.2 Service Providers
We use third-party service providers to help operate the Service, including cloud hosting and database services (Supabase), map tile providers, authentication services (Google, Apple), and payment processors. These providers access your data only as necessary to perform their services and are obligated to protect your information.
5.3 Legal Requirements
We may disclose your information if required to do so by law, or in the good faith belief that such action is necessary to comply with a legal obligation, protect and defend our rights or property, prevent fraud, or protect the personal safety of users or the public.
5.4 Business Transfers
If TrailTimes is involved in a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, your information may be transferred as part of that transaction. We will notify you of any such change and any choices you may have regarding your information.
6. Data Retention
We retain your account information and activity data for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide you with the Service. If you delete your account, we will delete or anonymize your personal information within a reasonable time period, except where we are required to retain it for legal or regulatory purposes.
Aggregated or anonymized data that can no longer identify you may be retained indefinitely for analytical and service improvement purposes.

We do not use third-party advertising cookies. Any analytics we perform are for the purpose of improving the Service.
9. Children's Privacy
The Service is not intended for children under 13 years of age. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. 12. California Privacy Rights
If you are a California resident, you may have additional rights under the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA), including the right to know what personal information we collect, the right to request deletion of your personal information, and the right not to be discriminated against for exercising your privacy rights.
